Sacramento part 1

As I stepped off the train in Sacramento I was greeted by 25 degrees of Sunshine - what a lovely welcome.

Sacramento has much rich history as does the Hostel I chose to stay at - so I may split this blog into 2.

I love the greeting above the door (Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness and many of our people need it solely on the accounts) and how cute is the veranda???

The Hostel is housed in The Llewellyn Williams Mansion which on first viewing is a gorgeous Victorian mansion which stands on leafy 'H' Street.

Of obvious Victorian styling it is very reminiscent of English Mansions of the time and has many similar features.

However, on closer inspection (having myself restored an Edwardian/Victorian house) not all is as it appears - the architraves and door moldings are not as elaborate or as substantial as ours and the ceiling mouldings appear to be a kind of raised wallpaper stuck where you would expect plaster mouldings and ceiling roses to be.  Fireplaces and wooden surrounds are indeed very similar as is the staircase, railings and half wooden wall coverings - the addition, on this occasion, of a stain glass skylight is stunning.

The biggest difference, of course, is that the house is not made of brick indeed it would not have been possible to move it 3 times during its history if it were!

My stay here was very comfortable indeed and the facilities were top notch.

As the house has so much quirky history I am including a link for you to read further if you wish.
